Sumi Painting
Haiku
I am going to be sharing some artistic fun and pleasure, via three Japanese art forms, at a workshop at the John C. Campbell Folk Art School in Brasstown, North Carolina, from August 4-11, 2013. For many years I have enjoyed studying and practicing (aka "dabbling") in these venues, and it is time for me to share!
Sumi painting (single traditional brush strokes using black ink), writing haiku (lyrical three-line poems using only 17 syllables), and Ikebana (the art of arranging sparse bits of natural materials, in a symbolic style) all offer an interesting syncronicity........one worthy of exploring. And exploring and combining these forms is what we will do!
In this workshop, I will be guiding participants (no prior experience in any of these disciplines or any artsy experience whatsoever needed) as they learn to express themselves using these simple, yet dramatic skills.
This will be a serene week, immersed in the beauty and nature of the mountains. The atmosphere of this magnificent campus will only augment a rewarding creative experience.
For more information on this class, the Folk School, or to register, see www.folkschool.org. You can also contact me for a brochure that is discriptive, showing examples of these Three Japanese Art Forms at [email protected].
