Every spring I force paperwhite bulbs. For me, it's like "taking my pulse," in that when I perform this ritual I feel everything is on track in my world. Isn't it remarkable how the "little things" in life can sometimes seem so big?
Since I have been in a collaging frenzy, finding just the right fragments of paper to work with has become "big." My massive paper collection is serving me well. It is so satisfying to say to my dear husband, "See, those imported rice papers I bought while doing an art show in downtown Chicago (fifteen years ago) are really coming in handy." He looks at me with a funny little smirk and no words need to be exchanged. Artists are expected to keep huge collections of stuff that just might come in handy someday, right? If that could be considered a measure of artistic success, my "Best in Show" ribbons should arrive any day.
My best find in materials to use for collage has been gleaned from one of my late mother-in-law's beautifully scripted letters. I reproduced it for the background of the artwork above. Having always been fond of vintage script and fonts, I just love that vintage script is such an important design trend right now.
Stay tuned, the amaryllis bulbs I planted are starting to bloom.
You are always invited to stop by my Etsy store.
Hugs,
Marcy
