On my recent birthday I netted a bookstore gift certificate that has sent me on an exciting artistic ride. I bought a book, Creative Paint Workshop, on experimental techniques in mixed-media collage. Since then, I have hardly put down the book or my jar of matte medium (actually I am on jar number two). Although I have always found collage useful, nothing before has given me such inspiration to try to take this technique to the max.
My first pieces have provided an outlet for lots of the ideas I've been amassing as a result of observing the new "industrial" trend in decor. I had already been drawing and painting old skeleton keys, padlocks and key plates (see following post); but gears, nuts and bolts seemed outside my art world. Then came a jaunt through a Restoration Hardware Store and suddenly a "softer side " of industrial became apparent and piqued my interest. Clock gears, film reels, rusty cast iron parts and polished chrome with lots of rivets really sparked some artsy creative energy.....and here they are. Click each image to enlarge.

I love to see your spin on this hot design trend. And I really love how they look in my home!
